Billionaire couple Bill and Melinda Gates spent 7 years building a 66,000 sq ft house in Medina, Washington. The impressive 24-bath home, now valued at an eye-watering $127 million, is not your average lavish mansion. It’s absolutely crazy and well worth a tour inside.
The massive mansion is of a “Pacific Lodge” style and is built into the wooded hill it sits on. This helps reduce heat loss and maintain a steady eco-friendly climate. The Gates named their home Xanadu 2.0 after the fictional home of the lead character in Citizen Kane.
The grandfather of modern computer technology, Gates has loaded his home with incredible futuristic technology. With a wearable pin, you can change the lighting, music, and temperature in a room to tailor everything to you. It’s a downright revolutionary and wonderful experience.
A massive aquarium is built into the huge living room, and it’s pretty stunning. The Gates have raised plenty of rare marine animals in their tank, including sharks, dolphins, and whales, creating an amazing small-scale underwater world.
This room may look shabby at first glance, but the exposed wood beam ceilings and grey stone fireplace give the whole room a natural and rustic vibe, making it a stunning place to enjoy yourself even on rainy days.
This beautiful living room seems modest, though, it’s equipped with multiple high-tech gadgets, making it a perfect space for relaxing. You can also enjoy the gorgeous yard views through the large floor-to-ceiling windows and doors.
Blue lighting is widely used throughout the Gates’ mansion. In this bedroom, the blue glimmer, together with the white linens on the large bed and ivory furry carpet on the wood floor, creates a comfortable and peaceful atmosphere.
Again, blue lighting illuminates the master bathroom, adding tranquility to this gorgeous design. The yellowing cabinets, dark brown flooring, and large white tub surrounded by a moat of pebbles offer a wide range of colors and textures.
These unique sinks and water taps are in the Gates’ master bathroom. They seem original and one-of-a-kind. You probably won’t find such sinks anywhere else.
Here comes another bedroom featuring another beautiful aquarium. The Gates’ home features 7 bedrooms. The property even has a 1,900-square-foot guest house, which is a mini version of the main house. So guests can take their pick of rooms.
This space boasts simple slate floors and zigzag stairs. Each piece of furniture in Gates’ home combines modern elements with natural elegance, making the entire house the epitome of luxury.
The Gates have a total of 6 kitchens across their extensive home. That means where they are in the event of a large get-together, there is a kitchen at hand. More pleasantly, each kitchen is plural on purpose.
Here is another sight of the kitchen. The floor-to-ceiling glass wall offers wonderful views and allows rays of golden sunshine to pour into the room on sunny days. The natural wood floors and simple design present subtle luxury.
Here comes the Gates’ favorite spot in the sprawling house. The pool is 17 by 60 feet and has an indoor and an outdoor section. A glass wall separates the indoor pool from the outdoor section, and you can swim under it to go outside and have fun on the terrace.
The large pool is equipped with an underwater music system. So you can listen to music literally in the pool if you want. And once you leave the pool, an adjacent locker room with four showers and two baths is always available.
Gates’ favorite thing outside is a 40-year-old maple tree. It’s electronically monitored by a computer to ensure it grows well. Gates also created an artificial stream to protect the retaining walls from runoff. Moreover, the stream is stocked with salmon and sea-run cutthroat trout.
The hallmark of Gates’ house is definitely the 2,100-square-foot library, complete with a domed ceiling and two secret pivoting bookcases, one with a hidden bar. However, the most awesome part is Leonardo da Vinci’s manuscript Codex Leicester Gates bought in 1994 for $30.8 million.
To entertain their three kids, the Gates made an entire room of trampolines that features a 20-foot ceiling. The trampoline room is for fun more than anything else. It can also be used as a fitness facility as the building also has a sauna and steam room.
